Overview

The Holy Mercenary is a horizontal scrolling 2d action game, characterized by a narrative component.

This story is about an anonymous mercenary who died on the battlefield of a war not his own. As he ascended to the afterlife, a god, who identifies himself as the god of peace, brings him back to life with the aim of stopping the war. To do so, he is given a magic sword and the chance to come back to life whenever he perishes in battle.

A very important component of this game is "limbo", a place halfway between life and death where the player will find himself if killed. In this place he will face the souls of the enemies killed. If they are defeated again, the mercenary can return to the world of the living and continue his mission, if the player is defeated then the mercenary will be dead and will start the level again from the beginning. The conflict consists in choosing which sword to use, since both the magic and the normal one will be available. The normal sword deals more damage to enemies but then they must be defeated again in "limbo", the magic sword instead deals less damage but the souls of enemies killed with this sword will not be present in limbo.

This game was actually been completed, but it's full of bugs and the gameplay is not really fluid, so i decided to put it in the "Incomplete projects" folder.
